Thank You Astroland!

As I'm in the business of implanting memories into my son's thinker, I felt compelled - nay - I felt it was my obligation to take him to Astroland today.  This carnival amusement park play-land dive has been the scene of countless summer days lost. Roan has enjoyed most of the rides and absolutely had the shit scared out of him on others.  It was important to be there today, as Astroland has been fighting a battle for years, and today it ended.  Sunday night Astroland closed.

I get sentimental about things like this, I am a total sucker.  I love the ghosts of Coney Island that make everything a little dingy, and a little dangerous.  But still, we have had our time here.  Roan has the photos and the stories to tell about his old man bringing him to Astroland, with his mother making everyone crazy with all the picture-taking.

I imagine that the next thing which is now imminently on its way will serve people well.  And when it gets outdated, dirty and retro, people will fight like hell to keep it around.  There will be future marching bands, future hula-hoop girls, future maniac clowns and future children wearing t-shirts and playing future music to fight the next.  But you know, now it is their time.

Astroland you rocked our world.  Peeeeezout.

I can't believe they did it. I used to go there all the time when I lived in Brooklyn. All good things, huh?

Melissa - HA! Well you're the first to recognize me. On the off chance I run into you again, please say hi - I wouldn't think it was weird, but I may try to buy you a drink.

Kat - yeh, all good things. The place went down going crazy, though. Like Melissa said - it was totally crowded. I've never had to wait in a line there until yesterday.
